Incorporating Online Marketing Into Your New Action Sports Brand is a Must
Ten years ago action sports brands where frowned upon, now you can see them in the Olympics. The action sports industry has seen an explosive growth over the past fifteen years and it will most likely continue to have this momentum as time moves forward. With this momentum comes fierce competition. For any growing action sports brand these days a strong search engine marketing approach and campaign must be laid out and properly followed.
Launching a company website and letting it sit around hoping for web traffic just doesn't happen anymore. There is a tremendous amount of noise online now and a strong online marketing approach will allow a new growing brand to push through that noise. Online marketing is not about tricks and cutting corners it is about growing your brand successfully for you audience to see and take action. Search engine optimization is a must in any industry. If you do not target certain keywords in your industry than how do you plan to be found for what you are selling? If you are selling skateboards than keywords used to find skateboards online must be strategically placed throughout your website. The keyword is strategically because spamming the search engine by flooding your website with keywords will result in nothing good; it could even ban you from a search engine. When done right search engine optimization efforts will attract your audience to you not the other way around. Making your website 100% search engine friendly is the first step of many.
These days there are many free platforms you can take your action sports brand and expose it just takes some time and elbow grease. Websites like Twitter and YouTube allow for tremendous exposure you just have to launch your brands profile and really work the accounts. Search engine marketing for the action sports industry does not have rule and guidelines. There is no secret formula. Different efforts will respond in different ways for certain brands. Many people are under the impression that this approach can only be done for large international brands. If you own a local skate shop or bike shop you should be targeting various different keywords and phrases your local search engine marketing approach. More and more people search online for everything even when it comes to local products and services. The action sports industry is not immune to this. Don't assume someone knows that your store exists because you might only have a few others close by. You might get a child's parent looking to buy a skateboard or a BMX bike for their birthday and they don't know where the closest one is. You could also have someone visiting in town that would like to go to the closest surf shop to check it out and they hop online to find it. A solid diversified online marketing approach is very important to the survival of any brand or store. Being visible in as many locations online as possible will be a vital ingredient to the success of your business.

what is the best film for action/sports photography?
A friend of mine asked me to take a few pics of him playing football but I usually stick with landscape/nature photography so I'm not sure what film I should use or speed for my lens (I have a Nikon N75 and the AF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens).
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
If it's a daytime game, you may be OK with ISO 400 film, but if it's an evening one, get IS0 800 or higher.
Here's a few pics I took during the afternoon and evening at a college game. I was using a Nikon D50 and started at ISO 400 at the begining of the game and later moved up to 800 and 1600 as it got darker. I was shooting with a Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 wide open, allowing me to freeze the action as much as possible. Your lens is not as long, but you'll probably be closer than I was.

Sports photography is very different from landscape/nature as the subject(s) are constantly moving. Try to anticipate the action as much as possible and try not to zoom in too tightly, as the players will often 'run off the frame'. If you don't zoom in too tightly, you have a better chance of captureing the full action and can crop later.
One strong suggestion - use a monopod as it gives you some stability, but is easier to move around than a tripod.
If possible, practice shooting one of the team's practices first.
