Al-Safa and Al-Marwah – Uncovering the Miraculous Story behind the Iconic Mountains
Perhaps one of the largest pilgrimages in the world, Hajj is a sacred ritualistic act deemed pivotal in every Muslim life. Completed annually, it is an important pillar in the religion of Islam, a religious duty that should be done by every Muslim, if and when one can afford to and is able-bodied to do so.
Makkah in Saudi Arabia has been long hailed as the place of pilgrimage, bringing in people from around the world. Capturing the solidarity of the people of Islam and their willing submission to God, this place of Hajj is regarded as the holiest destination in the planet, in the eyes of all Muslims. There are many rituals that are included in completing one's pilgrimage and one of these acts involves Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, two small mountains.
According to traditions and customs laid back during the time of compiling the Quran, the pathways between the mountains Al-Safa and Al-Marwah is a place where Muslims are seen to travel a total of seven times, back and forth as a part of the Hajj ritual. Based on legend, the small mountains called Al-Safa and Al-Marwah have been a part of Islamic history since the time of Prophet Ibrahim. Its iconic reputation as a place of sacredness is further emphasized when one considers its location in Masjid al Haram. These two focal points and the pathway that forms the bond between the two mountains are located inside the Masjid, as a part of its structure as a long gallery. The Masjid al Haram is the central point of prayers and devotion in the holy land of Makkah. Housing the holy Kaaba, a cubed edifice that stands tall as the most sanctified site in Islam, Muslims around the world face the Kaaba, no matter which continent or country they are in. It is the revered direction of prayers for all Muslims.
The starting point of the ritual walking is from Safa, situated an estimate of a half a mile from the venerated Kaaba, where as Marwah is located approximately 100 yards from it. The distance between the two mountains is 450 meters. The ritual of going back and forth mounts up to around 4 kilometers of traveling when one considers the total of seven trips.
According to Islamic legend, the tale that established the great importance of the mountains was a mere test of faith from God, Allah. It is one that has been told and retold for many generations. The story narrates that Allah had commanded Prophet Ibrahim to abandon his wife and son in the desert. His wife, Hazrat Hajra and his son, still in infancy was left only with the most basic necessities. Alone, stranded in a place between the two mountains, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, they soon exhausted all their supplies. In a need of desperation, Hazrat Hajra went on a search, hoping to find help. She traveled alone, thinking that it would save her time. Leaving her son, Ismael safely on the ground, she made her way to the mountain Al Safa. Looking over it as she climbed, she found nothing. She then ran to the other mountain, Al Marwah. Searching her surrounding area, she concluded that there was nothing there as well. She only travelled as far as she could see her son where she left him, safe and sound.
However, while she was running back from Al Marwah, she could not see him. With urgency and panic, she ran between the hills, back and forth. It was after she had completed her seventh trip under the scorching heat, did she find her son. By that time, when she arrived, there was a spring, sprouting clear water from the sand beneath where her son lay. This was deemed as a blessing from Allah, rewarding Hazrat Hajra for her patience and faith. This grant of reward founded the spring that is known as the Zamzam Well.
It is the undeniable truth that Makkah and its great wealth of history and mysteries have lured people around the world, mainly Muslims. I need small help on a mission on Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360.
It's on the mission called "Safehouse" and I just looked at a guide and I'm standing outside a barn where Al-asad is inside but here's the problem: All my teammates aren't doing anything! They're just standing outside the door, which they're suppose to knock down. I already checked all the houses and got checkpoints from all of them, and the Captain is still on the other side of the level.
