You cannot carry a switchblade with a blade 2" or more in length. (Pen C 653k.) (Note that there are some legal assisted-opening knives, as described in 653k.) Other than that, except in some specific places like school grounds and government buildings, there is no state law regulating knife possession by length. Fixed blade knives (i.e., dirks & daggers) cannot be carried concealed on your person, but are not otherwise illegal. (Pen C 12020.) Folding blade knives, in the folded position, can be carried concealed. You can buy legal knives all over the place--sporting goods shops and swap meets are good places to look.
