Being Prepared to Defend Yourself by Getting a Utah Concealed Weapons Permit

We are firm believers in being prepared, and live in a culture where this topic comes up quite frequently.  Most individuals believe that the police are around to keep us safe, but just how realistic is this?  Have you ever called the police to inform them that you were in fear that something bad was imminent?  Their response often is that until a crime has actually been committed, they have other priority calls that require their attention.

Becoming a Sheriffs Deputy?

I am 19 years old and have recently been offered conditional employment with a Sheriff's department in Texas. One of the deputies told me that first I will spend 2 years as a jailer and after that they will send me to the academy and I will be able to go on patrol. During the time that I'm a jailer, will I be able to carry a concealed weapon off duty?Texas law says you have to eligible to purchase a handgun to apply for a CCW, which means 21. I'm not asking because I'm gung-ho or anything, I'm asking because a few nights ago I was robbed at knife point and would feel safer if I was armed.

no you will not be able to carry a weapon.it is against departmental rules,after 2 years you do not automatacally become a deputy.now since civil service is involved you will have to take a exam to become a deputy.if you pass the exam you are still not a deputy. you will then have to go to the academy.if you make it thr thru bthe academy then you are considered a deputy.
