What would you prefer Springfield XD, Glock 17 or Ruger SR9 and why?
What is the most accurate at a distance, more reliable, can feed anything, will not blow up and will last forever? Im hoping to learn more about them in 9mm.
Glocks have been around since the 80s so their reliability is not in question. However, the XD has rapidly built up a reputation for trouble-free performance and has a far more natural 1911-like grip angle which puts less strain on the shooter's wrist, although this of course may vary due to personal preference. Plus the ergonomics are outstanding compared to the Glock which for many is rather brick-like and uncomfortable. The XD eats both hand reloads and factory ammo without any problem, whereas Glock's own manual warns of the danger of using non-factory rated ammunition, and in fact voids your factory warranty (The XD presents no difficulties in this regard).
This could be an expensive proposition for those using large amounts of ammo in a competitive context.
The other poster was correct in pointing out it's fully supported chamber over the Glocks, which have contributed to the 'kaboom' theory, which was a problem primarily present in certain calibres. A fully supported barrel will enclose almost all of the cartridge except the rim so the chances of blowing a case are slimmer.
As Gunpedia says:
"The cause of this malfunction was traced to issues with apurposely oversized (loose), and partially unsupported chamber in Glock's pistols chambered in .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and 10mm. The chamber lacks full support in the rear by the feed ramp in order to facilitate feed reliability. The lack of support in the chamber, usually combined with lead bullets, reloaded ammunition, or poor-quality factory ammunition, would cause the case to fail. The subsequent rapid expansion of gas into the chamber caused the cartridge casing to expand beyond normal specifications near the feed ramp at which time the casing would rupture, sometimes damaging the polymer frame and usually ejecting the magazine downwards out of the pistol grip."

"Most kB!s occur with commercially remanufactured or personally reloaded ammunition.
Successive re-sizing and firing of a case result in eventual weakening of the brass, increasing the probability of case failure. The partially unsupported chamber in the Glock exacerbates this problem.
"Hard crimping" or overseating of bullets, particularly in the .40 S&W, can cause dramatic increases in pressure almost to the same degree as a propellant overcharge. [See Annotation #3] Either alone or in combination with a weakened case, these factors can result in a kB."
Both the XD & Glock have gone through extensive and rigorous torture tests.
