Bob Bradley And The Gold Cup Loss
My guess is that every lover of soccer in the United States was glued to the front of their Television set on Saturday, waiting for a depleted U.S soccer team to come up with some kind of "Magic" in their final Gold Cup match with a highly motivated Mexican side.For a moment, it appeared as if a major upset was up in the air when the U.S went up 2-0, and continued with a sustained onslaught against the Mexicans; but as the adage goes:"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."
Lets face it: The issue here, is not that the U.S lost. Far from it! What I find disturbing is the manner in which they lost. Gone was that fighting spirit, and determination usually seen in any team put forward by the United States, in any major tournament of this nature. From veteran goalkeeper Tim Howard, to the usually foraging Landon Donovan, and returnee Freedy Adu, there was nothing to write home about this team! A glance at the statistics in this match will reveal how miserable the U.S team performed.They could hardly put a string of passes together. I wonder what coach Bradley was thinking when he brought in Agudelo, who was clearly very match rusty and could not have enhanced the teams fortune in any positive way.
Simply put, coach Bradley was clearly bereft of ideas. If he had expected a bunch of old guards, who are way over the hill in the soccer business to just show up in Pasedena, and capture the Gold cup from a well talented Mexican side, parading Dos Santos, and Chicharito, he probably needs his head examined. Coach Bradley must wake up form his slumber. The team needs a serious make over. Players like Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, will need to make way for younger generation of Americans who can take our soccer fortune to the next level. I am not exactly sure how coach Bradley fits in here, but that is up to the U.S soccer federation to decide. Hopefull, Coach Bradley will read the handwriting on the wall, and quit while the ovation is loudest!

Of what importance is the Concacaf Gold Cup to the World Cup Qualifiers?
In other words, how does winning the Concacaf Gold Cup benefit a team when it comes to the World Cup Qualifiers- or does it at all?

It has no connection just like winning Euro '08 will have no significance to the 2010 World Cup Qualification for that team.
What each of those teams does win is a trip to the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa. Which is an 8 team tournament for the 6 regional champions, the next world cup host and the last world cup winner. This is a nice tune-up for teams for 2010.
