Auditory trauma is the result of constant noise in the work place. Persistent exposure to intense noise for a long time can cause irreparable damage to human hearing. I was a Cannon crew member for four years in the Marine Corps. We were issued ear plugs but nobody used them. There are 2 problems with ear plugs which is why not many people would wear them,
1) nobody wants to wear them all the time and when you get a fire mission you don;t have time to be dicking around trying to get ear plugs in when you need to be getting rounds down range.
2) With ear plugs in it is difficult to here the Fire mission come in over the radio.
Most crew members just stick there fingers in their ears before firing
