Camo Dipping A Gun
Hunting for game can be lot of fun. However, it is not always that you can go home with your prize after a great day of hunting. There are several things you will need to consider, like picking out the prefect day to go hunting, having the right equipment, and blending in with your surroundings. Most game hunting enthusiasts are quite concerned with how they blend in with their surroundings because this pretty much determines the element of surprise that enables them to successfully go after they prey. This is why most hunting enthusiasts want to learn camo dipping so they can effectively blend in with their surroundings each time they are in the outdoors.
There are different kinds of equipment you will need to camouflage but the gun is often the trickiest to camo dip. You will need a pair of gloves, protective eyewear, a mask, trash bags or canvas with tape, a bottle of acetone, masking tape, khaki spray, olive, brown and dark green paints, and sponge brushes in camo dipping a gun. The first thing you will need to do is to clean a gun with a soft rag moist with acetone to get rid of oil and dirt. You will then need to secure the parts the gun that should not be painted (like the scope, dials, power settings, and the bolt) with masking tape. You will then need to lay out garbage bags or canvas material in a well-ventilated area where you can safely lay down the gun.
Before you start painting, try to put on protective eyewear and masks. You will then need to shake the spray paint cans well before you use them. Now, you will need to paint the gun with a khaki base coat. Let the base coat dry for about half an hour before you apply a second coat. Remember to paint the gun using short bursts to keep you from focusing on one area too long that might cause the paint to become thick and run.
With the base coat complete, you now can paint the gun with shades of green. Make the pattern wavy and try to keep one and a half inches to three inches of space between the random shapes. The next thing you will need to do is to let this dry before you apply random brown lines on the gun. You can play with the shapes using the brushes you have.
After camo dipping the game, you simply need to let the paint dry. You can add a glossy overcoat if you wish. After camo dipping your gun, make sure to take off the masking tape from the gun parts.

Best hunting camo for SW VA?
I just moved from Texas to Virginia so i need new camo for hunting
You will want a pattern that combines treebark and brown leaves. South west Virginia has a lot of wooded hunting grounds so this will fit in the best. The most popular hunting in this area is deer, followed by turkey. Of course, my family also hunted squirrel and rabbit for our Brunswick Stew, which was a popular for the extended family to make during the holidays.
Mossyoak has the "Breakup Infinity" which will work great. "Treestand" looks pretty good also.
Realtree offers the Realtree AP. I like it because it includes the pine in it's pattern, and pine is everywhere down there.
When I hunted with my family, I always wore a generic brown camo pattern. This was mostly because I hunted deer and you have to wear blaze orange while hunting deer, thus camo did not matter all that much. I was rarely successful in hunting turkeys. I had started getting a set of camo in treebark but never really used it because of deaths in the family and the fact that a lot of the family land got sold off.
So, get a camo pattern that works in browns and pines. SW Virginia has the pine forests, and there is a lack of hardwoods down there. However, if you are just hunting deer then VA requires that you wear blaze orange. Therefore you can pretty much go hunting in blue jeans and an orange jacket for all the camo is worth to deer.
