Ferret Hunting - A Fun Recreational Activity
The usage of ferrets in hunting dates back to the 6th century BC. In fact, the concept of ferret hunting came up after it was discovered that these cute, little creatures are effective in hunting wild rabbits and small rodents. They are natural hunters as they have a set of developed hunting skills that include speed, stamina and sharp instincts.
Ferrets effectively hunt down rabbits and rats underground though their visibility is only limited in such conditions. Your ferret hunting session will not be successful if you do not make all the prior arrangements needed. Different kinds of traps such as a purse net should be used in order to trap the rodents that come out from their burrows.
The stamina of the ferret on the day of hunting plays a vital role in determining its efficiency during that particular session. You can make sure that the stamina of your.
ferret is high by feeding it adequately on the day of hunting. Two things might happen if you do not feed the little creature properly. Either the animal will eat the prey or it will fall asleep and fail to hunt the rodent. There are also chances for your ferret to end up sleeping in any of the burrows finding it cozy and warm. You can easily trap the prey by blocking all burrows in the region of hunting except one, which makes it easy for your ferret to trace the rodent and chase it to the only opening left. You can catch the prey by placing a trap at that particular place.
Be careful while hunting down the prey, as a misaimed shot may prove fatal to your ferret itself! Moreover, the sound of the bullet may frighten the other rodents in other burrows making them stay inside. You need to be extremely patient if you wish to have fun in your ferret hunting session. Your ferret will certainly be capable enough to hunt down the intended prey, provided you take care of it properly.

porcupine problems? removal hunting? trapping?
I am going to use a box trap to catch this porcupine thats eating on the side of my house an i'd like to know what some good baits would be
I have used those have-a-heart box traps for all sorts of pests in the city and out in the country. Haven't come across a porcupine, but I can't imagine that you'll have a much different experience with one nuisance over the other.
I use fruit, usually (though for possums, dog food works great) but here's the trick: you've got to let it get a little overripe to really drive the critters nuts. I usually use apples, because they aren't messy and you can get a huge bag of the tiny ones for pretty cheap. Cut whatever fruit you're using a few times and leave the chunks in the sun for the day. This'll put off an aroma that pests can't refuse. It's done the job on armadillos, squirrels, possums, raccoons, and rats for me.
You will also have much better luck with this - or any other - sort of trap if you locate a "choke point" along the path that your vermin is traveling. First, you'll have to check out your yard and find where he is most likely coming from, and where he is going. Using this path, find a natural corridor that funnels critters through in order for them to get to the other side (hole in your fence, for example) and place your trap there. If you can't find a good spot, you can always try making your own with your trash cans, or some cinder blocks. It doesn't take much to make a choke for your trap, you only have to make the path leading into the mouth of your box the easiest way to go - you don't have to barricade with barbed wire.
Good luck with your problem. I'm sure you can deal with him using this method; you shouldn't find any reason to have to shoot him. Be careful handling the trap though, wear some thick gloves and watch out for spines, claws, teeth...the usual. You may find a critter that you're not expecting trapped in the morning and I usually consider these bonus pests. Just keep trapping every night and eventually you will get your guy.
