Which is the Best 55 inch TV?
First off, what are Plasma TVs, what do they provide, and are there any disadvantages of getting 55 inch plasma TVs? Plasma TV images comprise millions of plasma cells making up the individual images you see. As a rule they are usually bigger than LCD TVs and can go up to 63 inches in size.
What are the pros and cons of Plasma TVs?
Well-they're bigger;they have a wider viewing angle (between 160 and 180 degrees);they have a fast refresh rate and will capture fast moving images well.
Some of the disadvantages are that they do not usually perform well at high altitudes, they can produce a glare in a brightly lit room although the maufacturers are busy working on correcting this. They can also be much heavier than LCD TVs and use more power.
What are LCD TVs?
These are Liquid Crystal Display screens also used on computers and LCD TVs. The LCD HDTV display uses a fluorescent backlight to project light onto a mirror which then reflects the light back onto a screen. This screen contains thousands of "pixels" (or small cells) which actually help provide the color and delineation of the picture that you see. The first step to purchasing an LCD HDTV is to decide how big you want to go and where you plan to place it.
Advantages of LCD TVs:
LCD TVs last longer than a plasma TV. Some have been know to be in service for 30 years!
LCD Tvs have a lower power consumption than a plasma, but a little higher than a LED TV.
The LCD TVs are available in many sizes-you need to work out what suits your room. A 55 inch TV may be too big for the room in question
Disadvantages of a LCD TVs:
LCD TVs have a poor contrast level and not generally as quick to reflect fast moving images as plasma, and may create a blurred look.
LCD TVs are higher priced than the Plasma TVs, but because of the high demand and increased production the prices are coming down all the time
Overall, I personally think LCD HDTVs are more user-friendly and use less power-but plasma may be ,aking a comeback!
My list of my top rated 55 inch LCD HDTVS is as follows.
Our first contender is the Vizio XVT553SV which offers excellent picture quality, great local dimming capacity, and an extensive array of features. The Vizio XVT553SV is one of the TVs that will cause the least pain in your wallet when compared to other top 55 inch HDTVs. It comes Internet ready with many great applications and has an amazing 10 million:1 contrast ratio!
The Samsung UN55D8000 55 inch TV is a 3D LED HDTV providing unique edge-lit local dimming capacity, deep black levels, superb contrast, and precise colors. These features, not to mention its SMART TV platform make it one of the best 55 inch HDTVs. 3D means obviously that you can watch it in 3D. "LED HDTV"-what does that mean? Well an LED TV is simply an LCD TV that's backlit with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of the standard-type cold-cathode fluorescent lights. You will pay more for this than the Vizio so we recommend you look at a Samsung 55 review.
The Sony BRAVIA models aren't bad and you may want to look at something like the HX800 55-inch 3D HDTV which uses its LED backlight and unique ambient sensors for optimal color and brightness. The Motionflow PRO 240Hz technology and premium at-home resolution all make this one of the best HDTVs.
The Vizio M550NV 55 inch LED LCD hdtv makes our list of best flat screen TVs because of its sharp detail and advanced internet applications. Virtual surround sound and the ambient light-sensing make this Vizio a cost-effective choice if you are searching for a good flat panel TV.
Many people (myself included) always have asumed that LG is a German or European company. In fact it is South Korean. It is the second biggest electronic products maker of South Korea and one of the largest appliance makers in the world. In terms of 55 inch tvs I would look at something like the LG 55LE8500 . It is more expensive an item than the Vizio M550NV (nearly twice the price), but gives better shadow detail, deeper shades of black, spot-on color accuracy and super angle-viewing. If you are a videophile this probably won't be an issue for you.
So which top 55 inch HDTV is the best value for your money? Since having the 3D capacity is nice, but not essential in our opinion for quality viewing, we have eliminated Sony and Samsung models and their higher prices. The LG we think we may just have to be scratched from the list at present- because of its cost. This leaves the two Vizios.
As you can discover when reading a good M550NV review, the Vizio M550NV is a 1080p 120Hz HDTV with many great features for the cost. A frequent comment in forums is that picture quality of the Vizio M55oNV is better than many leading HDTVs and that the M550NV runs cooler than plasma TVs. Buyers like the fact the setup is easy, its extensive array of internet apps, and outstanding customizable picture and audio settings on this Vizio 55. An oft-mentioned comment by buyers was that the Vizio M550NV was "the best 55 inch HDTV for the money". There were a few customer complaints, such as the picture occasionally froze, or shutting down.
When looking at a Vizio XVT553SV review, at 1080p and 240Hz, customers are impressed that CNET rated the XVT553V the first ever Vizio HDTV as "excellent" in 2010. Customers also liked the excellent color accuracy and big viewing angle. Others when comparison shopping have spoken in superlatives about the XVT553SV as one of the top performing HDTVs. Some of the negative comments noted were about poor black levels and contrast ratios.
The bottom line is this: I think the Vizio M550NV and the Vizio XVT553SV come out as victors in my search for best value 55 inch HDTVs. When comparing these Vizio 55 inch models to other brands, the Sony HX800 I thought scored next highest in value, but the 3D capability is still not fully "there" yet.
