You should not listen to those who claim knife sharpening is difficult or takes several hours to do correctly. Others many suggest you send off your knives to have them sharpened periodically, but you can save your money and possibly get better results by doing the task at home.
It is important that you sharpen your knives regularly so that you can extend the life of the utensils. Many knife sets made for use in the home are low-grade products in the first place. Therefore, you should do everything you can in order to make them last longer. Knife sharpeners can also help you have a better blade than what you may receive when purchasing your knives. It is common for these sets to come fairly dull and in need of a good sharpening right out of the box.
There are a few different techniques that you can use for sharpening your knives. A manual knife sharpener may be what you prefer to use. Two varieties of completing the task manually are by using a whetstone or sharpening steel. It is important that you familiarize yourself with the different processes in order to sharpen your knife properly. It could take you longer or you could actually damage the knife if you do it incorrectly. A third option for sharpening your knife is using an electric knife sharpener.
A whetstone is probably the most common knife sharpener used by those who sharpen their knives at home. Be sure to take your time when first beginning this method. You can then speed up once you have gotten the hang of it. Once you have sharpened each side of the knife, you will want to rinse the knife as well as the stone. Ensure that you immediately dry the whetstone, and keep it dry between uses.

It may take a bit more learning and practice to use the steel than it would to learn how to use the whetstone. Make sure you do to one side what you do to the other. Wash the knife and steel rod after each sharpening.
It is a good idea to learn how to use a manual knife sharpener if you have a lot of knives. The electric one may not work well for you, or you just prefer to do it yourself. It is not hard to sharpen your knives, especially once you learn how to do it correctly. It will definitely be easier than the alternative, which is shipping them off and hoping they come back looking good.

I need to buy a rubber training knife that is not firm rubber but soft rubber.?
Ive done some rubber knife fighting and its fun. i ordered myself some rubber knives but they ended up being really firm and if i where to stab someone at full speed that could do some damage. ive seen some soft rubber training knives but they all look SOOOOO lame. is there any cool looking soft rubber training knives? please lemme know where i could get some. i live in tustin california. or some links to some sites would be nice. thanks.
