Microtech has designed a number of knives based on the timeless design and impeccable engineering of the legendary Ultratech model, renamed UTX knives. The UTX knives are smaller than the original Ultratech model, yet deliver the same level of performance as their predecessor. Similar to the Ultratech, the UTX-85 knife is an out the front, or OTF, tactical knife. This knife features an efficient and reliable dual action automatic mechanism for firing and retracting the blade. This function includes a fast and smooth blade firing mechanism and in addition, Microtech has implemented a special mechanism to ensure that the firing system will remain efficient for extended use. A well-rested spring will last for an increased length of time and so will also function more efficiently.
The UTX-85 knife has a strong blade that is constructed from high quality steel called S30V. This steel is made within the United States and it is known for its superb edge-holding qualities. It is also highly resistant against corrosion. The blade measures 3.1 inches in length and it is a single edge blade that can be without serrations, or with part or full serrations. For the finish of the blade, you can opt for stonewash, bead blast, stain, black, or black tactical. The UTX-85 has a 4.3-inch handle that is made of a high grade aluminum that is smooth, tough, and lightweight. As such, the knife has a weight of only 3 ounces and is lighter than most OTF knives of the same size.
The UTX-85 knife has a total length of 7.5 inches after the blade is launched. On the length of the handle, there is a trigger for firing and retracting the blade. This trigger is made from type 303 stainless steel. To launch the blade, you must push the trigger forward, and then to close, simply pull the trigger back. Additionally, the knife features a glass breaker at the tip of the handle as well as a 301 stainless steel pocket clip.
