Is this Sako L61R 30-60 rifle a steal?
I went into a gun shop that's going out of business looking for my first rifle. I am willing to spend about $800 for rifle and scope. The old guy behind the counter shows me a used Sako L61R 30-06 with a Leupold scope for $750. He tells me that it's a steal. He claims that it's a collector's and that other seasoned hunters would be amazed with this rifle. He also told me Sako's are excellent and go for $1000+. He told me it's in tip top condition. Should I jump on this "deal"? I think the walnut finish is beautiful on it, even to my rookie eyes. If this rifle is something special, please tell me. I will go for it. The scope is a Leupold 4..something. Not a 4x12, and less than a 3x9. He did explain the kind of scope it had used to be more expensive than the 3x9, so I wonder what it is exactly.

Yes, its a good deal. The rifle alone is worth around $800 used in 90% or more condition. Add the scope, and its a nice deal all the way around. Having the orig box & papers is another plus. If you like the gun, I would do it. Personally, i enjoy having something different than (as another answerer put so well) another Remingchester.
As for the negative answers you've been getting about Sako, since its not something people are familliar with, they down it. Sort of like everyone knows a Rolex is an expensive watch, and would pass up an Audemars Piguet or Vacheron Constantine since they never heard of it.
