Muzzleloader Accuracy????????????
I missed a deer today with my muzzleloader. Probably just too far away, but here is the question. I got it sighted at 50 yards. Even off a bench type rest I can never hit dead center unless I'm really close to the target. I can get all my shots within a (approximately) 3x3 inch circle or just on the edge of it. I have a TC Omega Z5. Is it just my shooting or loading inconsistency, or is the gun just inconsistent? Oh, just so you know I'm a good shot. From the same rest at the same distance I can group my rifle pretty much dead center with 1-2 inch groups with some of the shots almost in the same hole. Thanks.
I would have to say that it is your shooting. T/C makes an exceptional rifle. What you may be suffering from is that blackpowder rifles suffered from a tiny delay in firing whereas a modern rifle is more instantaneous. Try when you shoot to maintain your position until after the rifle has discharged, don't try to anticipate the recoil. Also, make sure that your rifle is very clean from the nipple on outward. If all of this is good to go and you still are having problems, take the gun to a gunsmith for an inspection. There may be a minor flaw or defect that could be affecting your shots.
