Is it acceptable for an off duty police officer to serve warrants?
If an off duty police officer uses his cruiser and comes in uniform to serve small claims court warrants, where he gets paid directly (not from the state/ county/ township) from the filing attorney, is that an abuse of power? Is it acceptable?

The officer is serving civil (not criminal) warrants and it is perfectly legal. Officers here do that as a part time job. Since he works for the local court system in doing do, officers, including those who take their squad cars home off duty, are allowed to do so by their departments. The reason for that is some people become hostile and violent when being served with civil warrants just like they do when being served criminal warrants. Some people may want to hurt the officer or even file an unfounded complaint on the officer because they are angry they are being sued/issued a summons ;o)
The need to be recognized in uniform and it marked vehicle is a safety one. The vehicle also contains equipment like his computer or mobile data terminal he would be using in those duties. Or rifle or shotgun in the trunk, in case someone gets really crazy.
