Serpentine belts
A serpentine belt was named after its serpentine qualities. The way the belt snakes in and out of pulley's, making it serpent like. The serpentine belt powers a lot of critical functions on a vehicle such as, the power steering pump, alternator, battery, air conditioning and water pump. If this belt breaks, then the vehicle will no longer function properly, leaving you stranded in the process.
The first serpentine belt was introduced by a company by the name of Hutchinson in 1985. The first production model car that contained the serpentine belt was the 1985, 190 series, Mercedes Benz. The serpentine belt is more efficient, compared to its multi-belt system counterpart. The system proves to be more mechanically efficient, due to its reduced slip qualities. The wide grooves in the belt, give it increased bite and its reduced slip qualities.
The one draw back to the serpentine belt, is that it is designed for a single belt system. If the belt fails on a single belt system, then the main peripherals will not function, on most vehicles. With modern serpentine belts, there usually is some sign before it breaks, such as the belt shredding many grooves without failing. The serpentine belt was designed wider, to lower torque requirements. Monthly inspection of the belt should be considered by vehicle owners.
Replacing a serpentine belt can prove to be a challenge, if you don't have the proper tools for the job. On most pulley systems a belt tensioner is required to change the belt. Usually your favorite vehicle repair manual to guide you in the right direction. If you are not mechanically inclined, or do not feel comfortable, leave the job to a professional mechanic. Generally to replace the belt, loosen the tensioner and then the belt should come off freely.
If you ever need to replace a serpentine belt, you can get them at your local auto parts store. There is no need to go to the factory and pay one hundred or so percent above retail, because you cannot find it in your local automotive store. The price difference buying one serpentine belt vs buying a few belts is relatively high.
The design of the serpentine belt, was a design that changed engineering of motors. Now, every motor is designed with increased efficiency and most motors are designed with a serpentine belt in mind. The serpentine belt truly is a modern marvel and engineering design, that Hutchinson was known for.

Who is the better fighter? A black belt Martial artist or a professional Boxer?
So I've been thinking about training myself for either style and I want to know what your opinion is on who the better fighter is. Who would win in a match and which style is better for self defense. What are some advantage and disadvantage on both fighting style.
there are 4 basic ranges to fighting they are
1. long range - some of the moves you can do are sidekick, roundkicks, jumping to your target with an attack
2. Mid range - some of the moves you can do are boxing jab, straight, thai style leg kicks
3. Close or trapping range - this would be very tight elbows, knees, wing chun sticking hands, uppercut
4. Grappling range - completely tied up not even room to throw an elbow, grappling, biting
Boxing will teach you only one of these ranges so if you want to be the best you should find a martial art which teaches the most efficient moves at each range and how to use your entire body as a weapon not just the fists, however a professional boxer on average would destroy a black belt because most places hand belts out to anyone. If youre into boxing mma which incorporates boxing, kick/thai boxing, bjj, maybe a bit of kung fu such as lau gar would be good for you
