Pursuit of Happyness -- Movie Review

Pursuit of Happyness

In brilliantly sequenced yet utterly natural instances, the master director shows his utmost class by creating an epic in Pursuit of Happyness. Will Smith, with his charismatic personality is smashingly synchronized with the director's philosophy of depicting real time dramatic stories.

Smith plays Chris Gardner, who is actually failing badly in selling his expensive but outdated machines to medical doctors. Having invested all his life-savings in those machines, he suddenly finds himself in all but a pitiful condition. Then on one day, he ran into a wall-street trader who told him that all he needed to be is good with ‘people and ‘numbers to get a job in his brokerage. Chris then started looking for an internship there.

Then a sequence of unwanted events which Chris certainly could have done without them, barraged into his life. His wife left him soon after finally getting entirely hopeless. And after that life seemed really desperate especially with his kid now only dependent on him.

But right here, the movie showed how much finesse it had combined with unprecedented steel. Never for a single damn moment, did Chris thought about running away from his dreaded life. Such were the unpredictable chain of events that the viewer wondered when would he finally capitulate!

But Chris had an answer almost every time except nearly for one time when he had to appear for his interview with a mere pant only. But such was his honesty and bravery that he managed to impress the crew even still.

The second half of the movie is about Chris managing his job and his kid at the same time. He does a brilliant job at it. In all that, never the movie offers a dull moment. Some of his conversations with his kid truly reflected what kind of father he actually wanted to be, especially after he himself was deprived of one until he was 28.

In the final third, the movie kind of settles down a bit, to the emotional relief of the viewer and he finally gets the job, that he had striven for so much.He reaction after that actually summed the whole movie quite beautifully.

Overall Pursuit of happyness, is all but finding happiness, yet Chris's quest for it is so much more captivating and magnificently pictured that makes the viewer wonder, "Are there any Chris's exist in the world?". The answer after watching the end is a resounding "Yes". Because life returns most things that it takes away from one (if he is willing to fight it out) and how!

Again it has to be said that the Italian filmmaker has simply made a masterpiece in "Pursuit of Happyness" which keeps the viewer on the edge throughout the movie and even after the movie settles, the air of pleasant unpredictability remains still.
