How far away is a commercial aircraft when it is "in range" of the airport?
An airline sometimes tells waiting passengers that the inbound flight "has called within range"...obviously it means the plane is near, but just how far out is, "in range"? Is it determined by distance or time from the airport?
For us, being 'in range' is when we're within radio range, so we can contact the facilities by radio. It's normally between 80-120 miles out.
