Barska 4x20 rimfire riflescope?
I just got a Barska 4x20 for my pellet gun and I am trying to adjust the reticle. But whenever I turn the elevation/windage adjusters, nothing happens. The reticle stays where it is, I've even turned the windage thing so much that it came out(because it is basically a screw) and I looked beneath it and it doesn't even look like it could adjust anything(but I'm not exactly sure what do look for). So am i just doing it wrong, or is the scope messed up( and i just opened it five minutes ago), or can i just not notice the difference.
um... the reticle is built into the scope housing (or possibly painted on the reticle lens for cheaper scopes). When you turn the elevation and windage knobs, it adjusts the entire scope housing... in other words, you won't SEE a difference in the reticle. You have to zero the scope by actually firing the rifle.
Do this by starting at a reasonably close distance. Fire a few shots on paper while aiming at the center. Adjust your windage and elevation to correct so that you're hitting exactly where you are seeing through the scope. Then move the target back a bit and repeat until you're "zero'd" at the range you desire.
SIDE NOTE: rimfire scopes are generally weakly constructed, and an air rifle kicks in the opposite direction from a standard rimfire. As a result, your rimfire scope may become defective after a while of being fired on an air rifle. If this happens, next time you buy a scope pick out one that is designed for use with air rifles and their unique recoil pattern
