Ballistic Plates for Ballistic Protection
With the increasing number of threats from antisocial groups, terrorists and organized crime, for members of the police, crime fighters, and security personnel, personal physical safety is the best defense of all. The great proliferation and availability of firearms to criminals has increased the need for body armour even under normal conditions. Ballistic vests or bullet proof vests are one of the best safety tools for them.
Ballistic vests are one of the most useful accessories for protection of law enforcement officers in firefights. Ballistic plates provide additional defense against high velocity rifles and are used by military or other security personnel for their safety in combat with the enemy. Ballistic insert plates are designed for a wide variety of military requirements as well as structural vehicle and building use in combat and defense applications. There are wide varieties of ballistic plate factories producing ballistic plates which are used in military vehicles, building structures, barracks, arsenals and of course in the manufacturing of body armour.
Ballistic insert plates can provide good protection against high velocity rifle bullets, including armour piercing rounds up to protection level NIJ IV. They are manufactured by specialist fibres that can absorb the kinetic energy of a bullet most effectively. In body armor, they cannot provide full protection to the wearer however, as to stop rifle rounds, they use rigid material and so cannot cover the whole body without unacceptable restriction of movement. In addition, although under the right conditions firearms will not penetrate the armour, they will still cause some trauma to the individual's body, which may require evacuation of the patient to a casualty clearing station for recuperation.
However, ballistic inserts and plates aim to use material that will absorb the trauma of a bullet strike most effectively and also spread it over the widest possible area to minimize this effect. Since ballistic plates are made of UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) material in rigid form, they are able to withstand strikes from greater threats. This is compared with soft body armour, often made from similar materials that usually, even at the highest level of protection, can only protect against hand guns. It should also be noted that body armour designed to protect against firearms is not usually effective against knives as the distribution of force on impact is completely different. This applies to soft body armour, but less so to ballistic insert plates which can protect to some extent against both threats without additional specialist manufacturing processes.
In summary, ballistic plates effectively give ballistic protection to wearers against high velocity rifle rounds that normal soft body armour of NIJ IIIA protection level cannot offer, but do not completely prevent any physical trauma to the wearer in the event of a strike.

Can I convert a Ruger 10/22 to shoot .22 Long Rifle magnum?
For example, I have a factory 10/22 with nothing changed or modified. Can I just buy 1 barrel that shoots both regular and magnum shots, or do I have to buy additional parts, if so, which parts.
No. You would have to buy a 10/22 already chambered in .22 magnum. You cannot convert it.
