Is my remington model 1100 good for turkey hunting?
So my grandfather gave me his model 1100 and i am wanting to get into turkey hunting this year. The gun has no choke and isn't threaded for one! Im just curious if it is a good turkey gun? Ive got a camo sleeve to go over it. It takes 2 and 3/4 shells. Any other info that you would need to know about this gun to help me can be answered! Thanks in advance. Conway

the side of the barrel says imp. cyl.. I imagine improved cylinder. can i put some kind of a choke on this gun or is this choke ok for turkey?
Generally the recommendation is for a full choke in turkey hunting. If your barrel has that you are pretty well set up as the hefty 2 3/4" magnum loads with 1 1/2 oz of #4, 5, or 6 shot(I think 6 is most popular) should lay them out quite well.I can't remember if a 1100 uses a adjustment ring to switch between heavy and light loads or not but if it does make sure its set for heavy. I'm sure that you could also get a 1100 barrel that is threaded for choke tubes and set up for use specifically with heavy loads if you desired to go to one of the super full aftermarket chokes that are available.
Hunters bagged thousands of turkeys with their duck and goose guns before the whole super tight choke+red dot sight+camo finish=Super Gobbler Slayer concept became "necessary" to be successful.
-edit- Imp. Cyl. isn't really a good choice for turkey hunting I'd suggest either buying a new barrel or if you can find a used full choke barrel it'd be great too.
