Baby Sling Carriers: Highly Beneficial For Carrying Babies
Traditionally, baby slings were simple adaptations of anything that could carry a heavy object. The idea behind baby sling carriers was to continue with normal tasks while taking care of the baby in a hassle-free way. With time, a variety of baby sling carriers were developed.
Nowadays, parents prefer baby sling carriers that help them to hold the baby close against their body with sufficient support along the length of the spine, which is a must-have in case of a newborn.
Types of Baby Sling Carriers
Baby Sling Carriers are popular with parents who want to continue their regular chores without feeling separated from their little one. Structured and readymade carriers are thus highly popular. Sling carriers are an excellent choice to carry infants, newborns and even toddlers.
A popular type of baby sling carrier is the ring style baby carrier. This uses a particular length of cloth and metal or nylon rings and one end of the cloth is sewn to two rings. The cloth wraps around the user’s body from shoulder to the opposite hip and back up to the shoulder. The end point is threaded through the rings to create a buckle. These slings are very comfortable as it lets a baby sit or lie easily. Best of all, it can be adjusted according to the size of the user.
Pouch slings are made from some fabric which is sewn into a tubular shape. These slings can be adjusted with the help of zippers, snaps, buckles or in some cases, rings too. Pouch slings are pocket styled. This makes it easy for quick loading and unloading of a baby.
Another type of sling carrier includes wraps style which involves wrapping of the fabric both around the baby and the holder, instead of being tied. This type of slings allows a baby to be carried in the front, back or on the hip of the user.

With Attachment Parenting...how do you ever get time for yourself????
I have a 4 months old baby boy, and I have adopted all the Attachment Parenting Care Principles...Breastfeeding, sleeping in the same room, baby sling...you name it....And I truly believe it to be the best thing for bub and me, however...now i am finding that i cannot put him down at all during the day so I can have a little time to myself. He still wakes up several times during the night, winges when he is not carried (and I have to walk around! No sitting!!!) He seems to need 100% attention all the time.( according to the attachment parenting book he is considered a HIGH-NEED BABY) I have a back problem as well which is getting worse from all the carrying...He is a happy thriving little boy...but mummy is deteriorating in the process...i don't want to end up cranky and feeling like i am not looking after myself. Any ideas???????
Realistically, if he is in fact a high-need baby, you are doing all the RIGHT things to make him into a secure, happy child. And yes it can be tiring, we called my middle child the 'velcro baby' because she was strapped to me, in one form or another, for 15 months. It had to be me, and it was constant. She is now the most secure, social, content 8 year old on the planet and I have a hard time getting her to stand still long enough to get a good hug.
I think what you need to invest in, is a better sling. (I too have a back that takes 'bad back' to new levels, with spinal degeneration, arthritis from multiple surgeries, and nerve damage. Yoga to keep it flexible and staying fit are neccessities here, in addition to medication I take daily, probably for life).
Someone suggeted a mei-tei, they aren't my avorite but many people do like them. I will tell you after three (and now almost four) children I own and have tried just about every type of carrier on the planet and until about the past week have been able to happily and comfortable use the sleepy wrap with my toddler; similar to a maya wrap but the fabric is, to me, much better for those of us with serious back issues. Also the mexican rebozo- which you can make youruseslf in about ten minutes, is a great way to carry, no wonder it's been used for hundreds of years with no changes! (You can just google 'mexican rebozo' and you will find various sites on which to either buy or make one; I have, in a pinch, even made them quckly while out from a shawl. It's all in the tie.)
He will get through this phase, and so will you.
I do exactly what other users suggeted- almost every night, for over ten years now, (since my first pregnancy) I take my book and my beverage into the soaking tub, and plant myself there for an hour. (My husband actually had a small book shelf built in above the tub for me a while back,- it holds a wine glass or teacup, too!)
You just need to find a balance.
There is no reason to suffer, and you are absolutely correct- a wrecked mother equals wrecked children. You need and deserve to find ways to look after yourself. One cannot do the most important job in the world feeling as if they are falling apart! Just keep in mind it will all go so quickly, and find whatever helps *you* keep balanced- the suggetions of others may work they may not, but there is *something* that will pul you through this. A weekly massage, a nightly bath, a thirty minute jog alone... It will take some searching by you- and your husband- to find exactly what it is, but when you find it, stick to it!
