What would you pick? S&W Model 19 or 60 in a trade?
I really don't need a concealable weapon, but I think the 60 is in better condition and will probably be worth more later down the line. What would you pick? The 60 is about a 75 model in 90% condition and the 19 is a 65ish model with holster wear on the cylinder and muzzle. Both the same trade primarily. The 60 has a bobbed hammer also. I like em both! It will be for carry, the wife (nightstand), etc.
I have owned both, and I would say that the 19 may be more reliable, since it is designed to handle .357mag. But, it is also on the lower size end of weapons for that round; so if it has been used for many years with mag rounds, it could be quite worn internally. If possible get a knowledgable gunsmith to look at both of them.
I owned one model 60 that had mechanical problems and had to get rid of it, but the other worked fine. Another problem with the 60 is that if has been fired regularly over the years with +P ammo, you could have the same situation as with the 19. But it is more likely that the average 60 would have had a smaller number of rounds shot through it over its lifetime; and the number of rounds fired is the primary cause of wear.
