Wrench Screws

Torque Wrenches
A torque wrench is used to precisely set the torque of a fastener. It is used with the fasteners like a nut or bolt. This type of torque wrench is having a special internal mechanism that is in the form of a socket wrench. The torque wrench is used in places where it is crucial to tighten the screws and bolts. With the help of torque wrench the operator measures the torque applied to the bolt and thus ultimately matches with the specifications. This type of system permits a proper tension and loading from all the parts. A torque wrench is used to measures torque as a proxy for bolt tension. But this technique is not much used as it suffers from inaccuracy. Due to inconsistent or we can say an un-calibrated friction between the fastener and its mating hole the technique is not supported by many. Instead measuring bolt tension has become more accurate now but torque is the only practical means of measurement today.
A torque wrench has long lever arm between the handle and the head of the wrench. This is the simplest form of a torque wrench, which is made of a material which can bend elastically under the applied torque. There is also a second smaller bar carrying an indicator which is connected back from the head. This connection is kept in parallel to the lever arm. So it is obvious that the second arm does not experience any strain at all, and remains straight. There is a calibrated scale which is fitted to the handle. The scale moves under the indicator when the bending of the main lever takes place. The operator controls the force and stops applying the force when the desired indicated torque is reached. Such a type of wrench is accurate, simple and easy to use.
Torque wrench allows you to control the torque when dealing with the nut or a bolt. With the help of the torque wrench the operator can remove or tighten bolt or nut. The torque wrench is available in different styles and levels of complexity. The selection of a torque wrench is done on the basis of the field of its application.
A beam torque wrench is a simple torque wrench. Such a wrench has a scale that measures the amount of torque being used. This scale is attached to a slightly flexible arm. The purpose of such wrench is that it shows the scale of torque wrench when the wrench is in use by the operator. Such torque wrenches are okay for general use, but it has somewhat inaccurate measurements. It is advisable not to use a simple torque wrench when one needs to have a specific or accurate measurement.
A click torque wrench is a wrench that is very commonly used. One can set the wrench torque initially. This provides a specific amount of torque. The torque wrench mechanism slips if in case it reaches the specified torque and so no more force can be applied.

How do I determine socket size for lag screws?
I am borrowing a impact wrench for driving in some lag screws for deck construction. I have 1/2" lag screws. However, the 1/2" socket that I have with the impact wrench is too small for the head of the lag screw. Is this normal? Are they supposed to match up?
1/2" lag screws have a 3/4" head.
