Xenon HID : Getting the best Xenon lights for Your Car
If you’ve read anything about the new Xenon HID headlights then you’re probably considering converting your car to take them. A brighter, safer light for night time and bad weather driving, Xenon HID helps you to stay safe on the road in even the least well lighted areas. And this isn’t the only benefit Xenon lights have to offer! Along with their better lighting xenon lights also offer better energy efficiency, less maintenance, better durability and a much more dependable lifespan than halogen lights. If you’ve become more interested in these lights you’re certainly not the only one! With the greater popularity of these lights has come a greater variety of lights to choose from.
Here are the 4 varieties of Xenon HID kits available on the market:
- Single Beam: This kit uses two pairs of Xenon HID bulbs and two ballasts to create light in the bulbs.
- High/Low: This kit has one pair of HID bulbs and a pair of halogen bulbs. The HID bulbs in this kit are for standard illumination (high beam) while the halogen bulbs act as dipped illumination (low beam).
- Telescope: This kit has installation clamps, a pair of HID bulbs and 2 ballasts. These bulbs can do the work of both regular and dipped headlight illumination.
- Bi-Xenon: This kit contains only the two HID bulbs that act s both regular and dipped illumination for your car.
Along with the kit types there are also number ratings included in the product descriptions. This number refers to the color temperature the light of the bulb produces. Often confused with the brightness level (which is measured in lumens not degrees) it can be a source of confusion when purchasing the part. This temperature is intended to tell you what color the light coming out of the bulb will be. Here are some common color codes:
- Golden Yellow: 3000K
- Purple Blue : 12000K
- White: 5000K
- Crystal Blue: 8000K
- Bright White: 4300K
- Crystal White: 6000K
- Aqua Blue: 10000K
Of these colors the two that are most commonly used (largely due to regulations in many different countries banning other colors from the road.) are 6000K and 5000K or Crystal White and White Xenon lights. As a general precaution make sure you check with the laws in your area about which colors of Xenon lights aren’t acceptable for the road. Where the other colors are allowed it’s usually only for off road purposes as the other hues are thought to be too distracting to other motorists on the open road. These tips should help a great deal in finding the right Xenon lights for your car.

I want to install a Xenon HID on my 1996 Honda Accord... How do I get start? Can I just replace them into existing housing frame? Or.. ?
If you want true xenon bulbs, there is a kit that is available for some year make hondas but the kit costs about $700. You have to realize that xenon is not just a mere replacing the bulb and socket. They use more power than your standard 12v car system. They use like 22 or 24v. They use some type of balast or something along that matter to convert the 12v to what is needed. Also, there is the possibility of electrical shock that most people don't realize when replacing xenon bulbs. You have to be careful.
You can get some very bright halogen bulbs that are xenon-like but they are not quite as bright. Good luck.
